The mod author will probably package it as two separate folders called green and brown, then inside those folders there will be the proper folder path to easily merge them into your directories. So for example a mod might modify landscape textures but have an option for a green-looking ground cover or a brown-looking ground cover. This is usually because they include multiple options for the same texture that you have to choose which to install. Sometimes texture mod creators will make their mods able to be activated by a mod manager, but some of the more complex ones won't be structured properly for it and must be installed manually. You may need to decide which mod's textures you want to see where, and install them in the appropriate order. For example, if you install Skyrim Realistic Texture Overhaul (which claims to cover the entire landscape) and then another mod that retextures, say, the mountains-whichever one you installed last "wins." So in that case you would see the second mod's mountain textures and not SRTO's.

Manual installs are much less complicated than you'd think for the majority of mods.Īlso, one final note: texture replacers often overlap each other or outright conflict.
Those go in your Skyrim\Data folder, if they exist. Now do the same for the remaining Textures folder-drag and drop everything in there into Skyrim\Data\Textures.įinally, some (but not all) texture replacer mods come with esp/esm/bsa files.

If Windows asks if you want to merge folders with the same name, say yes. Open up one of these-we'll start with Meshes-highlight everything in there (be they folders or loose files), and drag and drop into your Skyrim\Data\Meshes folder. Now, back in the unzipped mod folder, there should also be a Meshes and a Textures folder. There should be two folders inside \Data called Meshes and Textures. Now that you've read the readme, in another window, navigate to your Skyrim\Data folder. What I'm about to provide are basic instructions for manually installing a mod, but some mods have additional steps you need to take before they'll work correctly. If the mod author has any sense at all, there should be a readme file included. Note that you'll need to hit the "download manually" option, not the larger "download with manager" one.
